Meditative walks for men in the wild beauty of Snowdonia.

Step away from the noise. Walk in stillness. Rediscover purpose through mountain days, silence, fasting, and time alone in the elements.

What is Trackless?

The experience draws on Buddhist teaching, modern psychological findings, and ideas of quest and ordeal found in many traditions. This is not just a mountain weekend or a digital detox. It is a deliberate shift out of normal patterns and into something more demanding and reflective, a structured journey through inner and outer landscapes split over three days.

Is Trackless for you?

Have you done what they said but there’s still a nagging sense that life could offer more? Perhaps you've already sat on the cushion looking for answers? Maybe you know that you need a reset — some fresh perspective?

Our own experience and an emerging body of research shows that an immersive journey in nature of only a few days can help provide this.

The challenge

The challenge is to get out of your comfort zone. Get into your body, acknowledge your feelings and reflect on what it means to be alive in this time and place.

We will walk long miles in some of the more challenging and remote areas of Yr Eryri (Snowdonia), leaving our phones behind to re-centre ourselves, with the help of silence, immersion in nature, like-minded company and meditative and reflective techniques.

The vigil - Facing our fears with awareness and compassion, perhaps reveling in the majesty of the natural world as dark settles - we will hold vigil alone in a remote location on the second night.

What now?

If you think you’re up to a Trackless expedition, then fill out the application form and pay a deposit of £100 or the full amount. (If you are not awarded a place then we will return whatever you have paid).

The team

Alongside a rotating support team of cooks and meditation teachers you'll be led by two qualified mountain leaders, Amalavajra, an ordained Buddhist from the West London Buddhist Centre, and Francis Parry Roberts, who lives and works in North Wales.

Amalavajra
Ordained Buddhist from the West London Buddhist Centre.
Francis
Qualified mountain leader living and working in North Wales.

Small groups. Clear challenge. Real stillness.

For men drawn to meditation, purpose, and the mountains — but wanting an experience with more edge, structure, and depth than a standard retreat.

This event is challenging, physically and mentally — it’s supposed to be. You should be able to walk about 12–15 miles a day carrying a backpack with everything you need. We will make a dynamic assessment of the group and respond accordingly.

What do I need to bring?

A full kit list is supplied on enquiry and much of the gear is available on loan, or we can purchase for you with discounts from local stores.

Why only men?

Think of it as living like a monk for three days. Trackless is inspired by the life and teachings of the Buddha and his immediate disciples. Here we’re creating a clear, contained men’s space for this work.

Why “Trackless”?

‘Trackless’ is an epithet of the Buddha, with a rich range of interpretations and associations including the idea that he leaves no karmic trail, cannot be tracked by evil, and there is no basis for suffering in his actions.

How much does it cost?

We ask a £100 deposit on booking. The rest is on a donation basis, following the Buddhist tradition. A further amount covers basic costs, and a higher donation helps us offer some bursary places.

What now?

If you think you’re up to a Trackless expedition, then fill out the application form and pay a deposit of £100 or the full amount. (If you are not awarded a place then we will return whatever you have paid).
